Here's the "How" to the hugely popular post from last week, "Why You Need to Confess Sexual Sin To Your Spouse." If you missed it, you can read that post HERE.
When I confessed my sin of pornography to Star about 15 years ago it was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do. It was also one of the most painful times for my wife.
She was shocked. She felt like she had just been hit by a truck. She thought I was a sicko. She thought I needed to be admitted for sexual addiction counseling. We had just rebuilt our marriage from a pile of ashes and now this?
My confession broke trust, exposed insecurities, and shattered any intimacy we had built over the 3 years before. But, I don’t regret it for a second…
Tim and Stephanie Broersma experienced something similar. Tim and I had a chance to sit down a couple weeks ago to talk about both of our confession experiences with our wives.

How To Confess Sexual Sin To Your Spouse
In a culture where communication doesn't exist and intimacy is limited, the idea of a vibrant marriage is seen from a distance and rare to find. It was an absolute joy and honor to participate with Marriage Revolution, as Hans Molegraaf presented challenging information for couples to work on based from Biblical foundations given to us for marriage. You saw couples engaged in intimate conversations as tears were impressed upon cheeks from some hearing words of affirmation for the first time ever from their spouse. Couples holding hands in prayer after asking for forgiveness. Many comforting each other as they shared some deep wounds from the past. Many individuals found a private area to seek God's wisdom on their own and then joined together for prayer.
"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Mark 10:45
Couples learned how to serve or love their spouse according to God's Word. They were given insight on how to resolve conflict and offering comfort when needed. Guidelines of what a husband and a wife's role looks like were laid out. I shared what submission looks like for me through forgiveness and obedience to Christ. Couples were challenged to actively work on these new concepts through many different projects that stretched them from their regular means of communication.; limited at best. There was a buzz in the room as this was happening. You saw couples start to respond to one another and men offering sweet touches towards their wives.
"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me" Psalm 51:10
The impact of this marriage conference will not be seen by us, but felt and expressed through the generations to come. There is a nation desperate for the complete understanding of how Jesus designed marriage to be. A community drowning in misconceptions and contorted expectations of each other. The culture is extremely hard to break. There is no doubt that Jesus needs to be shared with so many more. But, out of the 30+ couples that were in attendance, I'm positive that many will take root to the truth that was shared and will continue with the projects back at home.
I pray Psalm 51:10 for the Cambodian marriages. I pray that relationships will desire more of Jesus to be present in their homes and that it will always bring them back to God's Word rather than how culture has done it in the past. I pray for church communities to begin a marriage revival throughout the villages as God continues to reunite and reconcile unions and to be the example to others. God was very much present during all the sessions. I was moved to tears many times listening to the stories told about how the information was changing many. And by no means were Tim and I not impacted as a couple even though we sat in the back. This was a time of renewal for us as well watching God heal couples. An honor indeed to watch lives; to watch marriages, be changed and to come alive.
